Serving Children in Foster Care

Tapestry is helping to raise awareness of the thousands of North Texas children in foster care, including nearly 1,000 children who are waiting to be adopted by a forever family. As we do so, we are also helping families and singles alike discover and access the many ways that they can love and serve these precious children. It is truly our privilege to serve children here and now.

Below are just a few of the many ways you can serve children in foster care:

Pray – There are millions of orphans worldwide and thousands of children in foster care in our area. You can make a lasting difference in their lives and join with others who are regularly praying for these children. Click here for a prayer guide to help you know how to pray specifically for children in foster care.

Volunteer – There are many ways you can volunteer to serve children. You can become an advocate (through your local CASA), a mentor for a child in foster care (through TRAC) or volunteer to serve at an upcoming Tapestry event or conference. Click here to learn more about becoming a volunteer or advocate to serve children in foster care. To find out ways you can serve within Tapestry, contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org.

Donate – Many foster and adoptive families get a call from their agency and learn that they will be receiving a child in a very short period of time. These children often arrive with very few personal belongings. You can donate to the Tapestry Kids Closet to help provide much needed supplies and equipment for these children and families. Donations are collected in the Town Square at IBC. You can also read how some IBC moms recently got involved in serving children in foster care.

Help – You can come alongside foster parents and offer help and support in a number of ways, from providing babysitting or relief care to helping a foster family cover the cost of their foster child participating on a soccer or baseball team, taking piano or dance lessons or getting involved in boy scouts or girl scouts.

Foster/Adopt – Consider becoming a foster or adoptive parent. Click here to learn more about the various foster care and foster/adoption alternatives. We even offer training several times each year to become a licensed foster parent or adopt from foster care.
