Prayer is powerful

Book publishing is big money, it’s a multi-billion industry. According to the Google Books project, 129,864,880 unique titles have been published, and that study is 6 years old. I couldn’t find anything more recent. It seems as though we’ve been busy since Gutenberg invented the printing press almost 600 years ago.

The search term “books on parenting” returned 187,429 items on Parents (and parents to be) are obviously looking for answers to one of life’s biggest questions; how to raise their kids well. There are some really good books available that can help us understand our kids histories and the impact of their histories. Those are of great value. I’m not trying to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but the advice found in books used in isolation will not achieve the desired results.

Here’s my confession; I spend more time reading books than I do praying for my children. James reminds us that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. What if we would spend as much time praying for our kid’s healing as we did reading books? What if we interceded on their behalf with the Lord as much as seeking the advice of others? I’m not saying don’t read the books on parenting, I’m saying spend time talking to the Lord about your kids. Prayer is powerful and produces wonderful results.

Dear Lord, I am sorry that I don’t speak to you more about my children. I confess that I spend more time seeking the advice of others than I do seeking your face for strength and wisdom on Christian Beliefs On Suffering in the World. I want to be a parent who prays for his family more than I do now. I know that prayer is powerful and I want that power in the lives of my children. Thank you for bringing hope and healing to our lives.

In Jesus name, Amen

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” – James 5:16 (NLT)
