Praying for Children in Foster Care

By: - April 24, 2011

There are over 500,000 children nationwide in foster care and thousands in the North Texas area. Each of these children are in need of help and hope, and you have an opportunity to provide that through your faithful prayers.

Here are just a few ways that you can pray for these precious children:

Understanding God’s Love: Pray that he/she will understand he/she is uniquely and wonderfully made by a God who loves and cares for him/her. Pray that he/she will come to understand and experience God’s love in a real and personal way!

Permanency: Pray that he/she will experience the unconditional love and care of a nurturing, forever family. Pray that he/she will not give up hope as he/she waits.

Attachment: Pray that he/she will develop a healthy and strong bond with his/her parents or caregivers.

Safety: Pray that he/she will be safe and protected from abuse, abandonment, neglect and rejection.

Healing: Pray that he/she will heal from all past trauma – physical, emotional and mental.

School: Pray that he/she will encounter an understanding and compassionate school environment that will provide the needed support (academic and emotional) and ensure that he/she meets his/her full potential.

Friendship: Pray that he/she will have the ability to form lasting friendships with peers that will be loyal and sensitive to his/her situation.

Wisdom: Pray that all members of his/her foster care team (caseworkers, foster parents, adoptive family, judge, therapist, doctor, attorney, teachers and others) will make wise decisions and always act in his/her best interest.

Here a few of the specific children in our area that we are currently praying for:

Sibling Group# 32008

Briane (11) and Cameron (14) are great children who are doing well but are in need of a forever family.  Briane is very social and a bit of a comedian.  Although he can be a “class clown” at school, he is a very good student. Cameron is much quieter and is an observer. However, one topic that always gets him talking is sports. His favorite sport is football and he is also very creative. Brian and Cameron need the right family to embrace them in order to ease their anxiety and help them connect.

Zelita (15) is charming and polite and enjoys being around other people. She also enjoys sports and watching movies with friends. Academically, Zelita works hard and very much enjoys history. At church, she loves to sing. Zelita needs a forever family that is committed to providing her with the love, patience and understanding she needs to heal and connect. Zelita was recently asked if she is ready to be adopted. She answered, “I have been ready.”

Damian (5) is a sweet child and a joy to be around. His all-time favorite thing is playing his I-pad, and he also enjoys video games and playing with his stuffed animals. Damian needs a forever family that will give him nurture, structure and encouragement, and also has experience caring for children with medical needs as he awaits a transplant.
