Traveling the Journey Together

I had a wonderful opportunity this past weekend to speak at the Created for Care Retreat for adoptive moms in Atlanta, Georgia.  It was incredible to see over 250 adoptive moms and moms-to-be in one room together sharing their experiences, joys and challenges with each other.

The weekend provided these women a wonderful opportunity to connect with each other as they walk the adoption journey.  Being there I was reminded how easy it is to think that once we get through the adoption process and our child comes home that somehow we are finished.  The truth is that while the adoption process may be complete, our adoption journey has really just begun.

On this journey we are all but certain to have ups and downs, good days and bad, as well as a little bit of everything in between.  Some days I feel like I am on top of the world and things are rocking along with me and my kids, and then other days I feel like everything is about to crumble around me. But one thing I know is that I am not alone on this journey, and that is by God’s design.  I am blessed to have close friends who are fellow adoptive moms and are walking this journey with me – some from a distance and many more who are very close by.  I know I can call on them whether it’s a good day or a bad one.  And there are days – you know the kind I am talking about – that this truly does make all the difference.

Staying connected with others who are also on the journey is unbelievably important, not just in terms of where my I am traveling to but also in terms of how I get there.  My desire is to travel this journey well and to do so I know I must travel it as God intended – together with others.

I am so grateful that these new adoptive moms at the retreat were able to make new connections and strengthen old ones.  I know the Lord will bless their new friendships and the connections they made as they travel the adoption journey together.

  • Few of my adoptive mom friends were trying to attend that but it filled up in about a day. :- )

We wouldn’t have made it without our connections with other adoptive families. That’s why it’s been such a blessing here in our new state to finally start connecting to others with a heart for adoption as we walk the path again.
