A Spirit of Power

Life is hard. There is no way around it. We can’t deny it. Some days bring more challenges than others, and the really hard days leave us filled with doubt. And just when we are ready to give up and retreat we hear that nagging voice say that we are not enough, that we can’t parent well, and that our kids won’t heal and grow.

We have to fight the temptation to listen to that voice and the temptation to throw in the towel because those doubts and those lies are from the devil. He wants you to question your abilities, he wants you to feel alone, he wants you to give up. If he can get you to quit he can stop you from being the agent of healing that the Lord called you to be in the lives of your children.

We know that doubt and fear are from the devil because he wants what is worst for us. He is the enemy. He is not happy when our kids heal. He wants pain and strife. He wants us to remain stuck where we are. We know that doubt and fear cannot be from the Lord because he has given us a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline.

We need to claim that power every day. We need to let the spirit lead us every day. When we give into the doubts and fears we miss the best of what the Lord has for us and our families. When we give up we miss the blessings that are waiting for us.

Jesus did mighty things in his earthly ministry and he did those things by the power of the spirit. That same spirits indwells us and calls us to walk in the blessings that await us. Don’t give up. God has equipped you for the journey.

Lord, forgive me when I let doubts and fears prevail. Forgive me when I look to my own strength. I am weak without you, but by your spirit I am empowered for the service you have called me to. Teach me love the way that you do.

In Jesus name, Amen

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. – 1 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
