The shadow of the Almighty

Rest. Such a small word. So easy to spell and so easy to speak, yet so hard to find and so hard to do. We live in a busy world, one where our worth is often determined by how busy we are. We parents live in a very busy world. We have school (morning routine, lunches made, drop-off, pick-up, homework) and extracurricular activities (soccer, baseball, volleyball, dance, music, etc.) and appointments (doctor, dentist OT, PT, speech).

I think that we can all agree on two things. We are all busy and we all need a break. But we don’t just need a break, we need rest. We need it for our own physical and emotional health as well as modeling the discipline for our children.

It is important to remember that rest is not found in your phone or television, or any of the other distractions the world has to offer. True rest is found by living in the shelter of the Most High. It is found in wanting the things of God and loving his ways. It is found in the shadow of the Almighty.

We need to lean into Jesus. We need to live in the shelter of the Most High, we need to rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Lord, I admit that I am not a seeker of rest. There are days that I find my worth in how busy I am. Teach me to live in your shelter and rest in your shadow. I want to be a person you is emotionally healthy and available to my family. Teach me your ways. Teach me to desire your ways and to do your will.

In Jesus name, Amen

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” – Psalm 91:1 (NLT)
